Koi Leaping Upstream is an auspicious enclosure. Throughout Japanese history, koi fish are revered. They symbolize perseverance and strength, particularly when overcoming adversity; pine trees symbolize strength and longevity. The concept for the lid of this enclosure is to glimpse the koi through rippling water, as captured by a lasered pattern of swirls and spray through acrylic windows. The accent papers reinforce the water imagery.
