The revered gods, Raijin and Fujin, are frequently paired together. Raijin is the primary god of lightning and thunder whereas Fujin is the god of wind. Raijin has three fingers, representing the past, present and future. Together, the brothers symbolize the natural forces that can both protect and devastate. This Sogara is a reproduction of one of the most famous paintings in Japan by Ogata Korin, located at the Tokyo National Museum. The exterior of this Kobako represents the simple solid earth but the interior contains all the tension. There, the Gods of the Sky square off against one another on opposite sides of the enclosure.
