ABOUT THIS PIECE
In Japan, dragons are revered for their associations with wisdom and good fortune. This image of the dragon is among the very last paintings by the famed artist, Hokusai, in the year he died, 1849. “Dragon Over Mt. Fuji” symbolizes success and prosperity, and the golden hoju pearl in the claw of the dragon is a well-wishing jewel. This Kobako also incorporates a very special closing. This piece will not open except with gentle pressure applied in a specific way, creating a secret locking mechanism.
